Hey America,

It’s been a few weeks since the our last issue. Originally my vision for the blog was to find a way to publish every week regardless of what happens and up until now I think I was off to a pretty good start. It was stressful in some ways, especially in the beginning while I was teaching myself the technicalities of blogging and what not, but the last few weeks have been a little different.

It is somewhat humorous because I have been surprisingly NOT busy lately. Yet for whatever reason, I felt it necessary to take a mental vacation. So for my honest readers that is the explanation of why I’ve taken two weeks off. Some people however, are probably thrilled that I have given them two weeks off from deleting junk mail in their inboxBut I with most of you I hope that’s not the case!! Anyways, it feels good to be back and the recipe for truth pushes onward.

Let me get started by asking this. Does anyone think it’s odd that there seems to be events occurring throughout the world at a constant rate every single day−but only for about 3 and a half years? I noticed this during the last presidential election and it is proving itself just as true in this one.

The news covers a wide variety of things all throughout the world. Obviously different outlets differ in story selection and opinion, but for the most part it is quite uniform all across the board. In election year however, there are about 6-8 months where suddenly the only thing going on in the world is apparently our presidential election.

The problem is that it doesn’t get old because it’s what we want to see. It’s dramatic and fun and we get sucked into it. Before we know it everything is getting tied into the election. This creates a big problem in the nation because everyone puts on blinders. These blinders eliminate America’s ability to think critically and develop their own opinions. Instead people take for granted what the media gives them…Is that really what we want? I don’t know?

More importantly though, are the things that the news is not covering. As we speak there is so much developing in the world, especially in the Middle East! I have a friend who just enlisted in the military and doesn’t even know what a treat we face with Iran. Not that I’m saying don’t join the military, I think that’s great, but I would want my son or daughter maybe knowing about the potential danger that they could be getting themselves into if it were me.

I realize that some outlets do actually do an honest job and if you have a source worth sharing I’d love to hear from you. But I don’t think I’m alone when I say that there must be something going on in the world that is more important than Brad Pitt’s mom writing Anti Obama letters. (yes that was a headline) But it’s catchy isn’t it? That’s why it sells.

And that’s also why we can all use a reminder because I get caught up in it too. But I think Conservatives and Liberals can both agree on the basis that we don’t want to hear why it’s Obama’s fault that the sky is falling today. Last time I checked there’s a lot more people in the government that are making decisions and they are hiding behind the screen of the election. This is allowing them to make bad choices that go unheard. If we don’t call them out they will just keep DOING IT.

We often forget that the Healthcare Bill that just passed originally had nothing to do with President Obama. In fact, he didn’t have anything to do with it for awhile…..and yes he is now taking credit for it saying “I passed this Bill” when in reality HE didn’t. He just signed his name on the dotted line…But that’s fine. Even if he wants to claim it, it is still not fair to criticize him for it. Which brings me to my final point. If this is how you feel, is Obama really the problem? Or does it run deeper? Could it possibly be the many others in the government who crafted up this bill in the first place? Hmmmmmmm….

The bottom line: That is just an example, regardless of how you feel on any issue. It is obvious that this election is distracting us from many of the real problems at hand. And yes, it is important and I do understand that. But I think that 30 percent of the time on television should be devoted to the election instead of the current 70 to 80 percent and that would still be plenty. I’m not trying to get anyone to think a certain way, but instead get them to think….we often forget to do that.

Keepin’ it real 🙂
